China-South Asia Expo Closes with $112 Million in Trade Deals

The eighth China-South Asia Expo concluded on Sunday in Kunming, the capital of southwest China’s Yunnan Province, marking a significant boost in regional economic cooperation. The event resulted in domestic and foreign trade contracts worth over 8 billion yuan (approximately $112 million), according to the organizers.

Throughout the expo, cumulative online and offline sales surpassed 500 million yuan, reflecting strong market engagement. The five-day event attracted participation from 82 countries, regions, and international organizations, with more than 2,000 companies showcasing their products and services. Notably, nearly half of the exhibitors were overseas companies, encompassing all countries in South Asia and Southeast Asia.

First held in 2013, the same year China introduced the Belt and Road Initiative, the China-South Asia Expo has grown into a pivotal platform for international trade and cooperation. Over the past eight years, it has served more than 18,000 domestic and foreign companies, facilitated trade exceeding $100 billion, and led to the signing of over 3,000 projects.

Jointly organized by China’s Ministry of Commerce and the Yunnan provincial government, the expo stands as one of the most significant annual events for fostering economic and trade exchanges between China and South Asian countries. The continued success of the expo highlights the strengthening ties and expanding opportunities within the region, offering a gateway for businesses seeking to engage with the dynamic markets of Asia.
