Shenzhen, China — The Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link has experienced a remarkable surge in traffic, recording over 2 million vehicles since its inauguration on June 30, according to the Guangdong Provincial Department of Transportation.
The department reported that of the total vehicles, 1.85 million were passenger cars, while trucks accounted for 150,200. Spanning 24 kilometers, the link currently handles an average of over 100,000 vehicles daily, showcasing its vital role in regional connectivity and economic activity.
In an impressive feat, the link saw 305,000 vehicles cross it within the first 72 hours of its official opening, reflecting immediate and substantial public utilization. The Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link is recognized as one of the most challenging cross-sea cluster projects, achieving ten world records in engineering and construction.
Connecting the Shenzhen airport interchange with Ma’anshan Island in Zhongshan across the Pearl River, the link has significantly reduced travel time between Shenzhen and Zhongshan from two hours to approximately 30 minutes. This substantial decrease enhances mobility for residents and businesses, fostering greater integration within the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
The surge in traffic underscores the link’s importance in facilitating transportation, stimulating economic development, and promoting regional cooperation. As a critical infrastructure project, it represents a milestone in China’s ongoing efforts to advance connectivity and support growth in one of its most dynamic regions.
