European aircraft manufacturer Airbus marked a significant milestone on Monday by delivering its 700th A320 family aircraft assembled at the A320 Family Final Assembly Line Asia (FALA) in Tianjin, located in north China’s Tianjin Municipality.
The aircraft, an A320neo configured with 180 economy class seats, was handed over to Chengdu Airlines. This delivery brings the airline’s Airbus fleet to a total of 50 aircraft. Wang Shushi, CEO of Chengdu Airlines, expressed enthusiasm about the addition, stating it would bolster the airline’s capacity and service offerings.
George Xu, Airbus Executive Vice President and Airbus China CEO, highlighted the importance of the event. “This achievement underscores the long-standing and in-depth cooperation between Airbus and the Chinese aviation industry,” he said. “Airbus remains dedicated to strengthening strategic collaboration with China and fulfilling our long-term commitment to this thriving market.”
Christoph Schrempp, General Manager of the Airbus Tianjin Delivery Center, noted the significance of the Tianjin facility in Airbus’s global operations. “At least every third Airbus A320 aircraft in China comes from Airbus Tianjin,” he remarked. “This milestone underlines Airbus’s strong commitment to China, the Chinese aviation market, and its continuous development.”
The Airbus Tianjin FALA, established in 2008, is the company’s first final assembly line outside of Europe and serves as a symbol of the growing aviation partnership between Airbus and China. The facility plays a crucial role in meeting the increasing demand for single-aisle aircraft in the region.
As the aviation market in Asia continues to expand, Airbus’s collaboration with Chinese partners is expected to deepen, contributing to the growth of the aerospace industry and supporting the region’s economic development.
