China Deploys Satellites for Dongting Lake Dike Breach Relief Efforts

A dike breach at Dongting Lake, China’s second-largest freshwater lake located in central Hunan Province, has prompted the deployment of several remote sensing satellites to assist in rescue and relief operations.

On Friday, the breach raised significant concerns for the surrounding communities. In response, the China Centre for Resources Satellite Data and Application (CRESDA) announced that satellites Gaofen-3 02, Gaofen-3 03, Gaofen-1, and Gaofen-4 have been mobilized to provide real-time monitoring of the affected regions.

According to CRESDA, as of Saturday, satellite imaging has been conducted five times. The data collected has been swiftly provided to relevant departments to aid in the relief efforts.

The remote sensing satellites are offering crucial support by delivering timely and accurate information on the breach’s impact, assisting authorities in coordinating rescue operations and mitigating potential damages.
