China’s state-owned CHN Energy Investment Group has officially launched an innovative marine facility off the coast of Putian, a city in southeastern Fujian Province, that combines offshore wind power generation with fish farming.
The facility features a 4-megawatt offshore wind turbine capable of generating up to 96,000 kilowatt-hours of electricity per day at full capacity, according to CHN Energy. This clean energy not only contributes to China’s renewable energy goals but also supports sustainable development in the region.
In a pioneering approach, the facility integrates a hexagonal aquaculture area equipped with advanced technology for remote monitoring and evaluation of fish health. This allows for efficient fish farming operations beneath the wind turbine, maximizing the use of marine space.
Designed to withstand harsh marine conditions, the facility is capable of enduring typhoons with wind speeds up to 50.9 meters per second, ensuring continuous operation even in challenging weather.
China continues to invest heavily in renewable energy as part of its commitment to green development. The nation has been steadily increasing its installed capacity of renewable energy, demonstrating significant growth and innovation in the sector.
