Cambodia and the World Health Organization (WHO) have pledged to deepen their collaboration in public health initiatives, aiming to enhance the well-being of Cambodians.
The commitment was reaffirmed during a meeting on Friday between Cambodia’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Sok Chenda Sophea, and WHO Regional Director for the Western Pacific, Saia Ma’u Piukala.
Sok Chenda Sophea expressed his gratitude for the WHO’s ongoing support, highlighting the organization’s vital role in advancing global health. “Cambodia deeply appreciates the continuous support and contributions of the WHO to our public health sector,” he stated.
He emphasized Cambodia’s focus on improving the social health protection system, strengthening primary medical services at health centers and district referral hospitals, and enhancing the overall quality of healthcare services. “We are committed to working closely with the WHO to improve the health and well-being of the Cambodian people,” he added.
Saia Ma’u Piukala echoed the sentiment of strong collaboration, reaffirming the WHO’s readiness to support Cambodia’s health initiatives based on the country’s specific needs and context. “We look forward to continuing our strong partnership with Cambodia to address public health challenges,” Piukala said.
During the meeting, Piukala also updated Chenda Sophea on the progress of the Cambodia-WHO Country Cooperation Strategy 2024-2028, which is in the final drafting stage. The strategy aims to outline the collaborative efforts and shared priorities between Cambodia and the WHO for the next five years.
