China-Europe Freight Trains Set Historic Record in May

China-Europe freight train services achieved a record-high transport volume in May, signaling a robust expansion in trade between Asia and Europe. According to China State Railway Group Co., Ltd. (China Railway), the number of freight train trips surged by 14 percent year on year to 1,724 trips.

The cargo transported reached approximately 186,000 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs), an increase of 13 percent compared to the same period last year. This performance marks the highest monthly transport volume in the history of China-Europe freight train operations.

China Railway attributed this milestone to accelerated efforts in constructing a modern railway logistics system. Since the beginning of the year, the company has focused on carefully organizing cargo transportation and enhancing the railway system’s freight capacity and service quality.

Moreover, national railway freight transport also experienced growth. In May, China’s railways transported 337 million tonnes of goods, up 2.8 percent year on year, reflecting steady economic momentum.

The continuous growth of China-Europe freight train services underscores the increasing reliance on rail logistics for international trade. The expansion offers business professionals and investors insights into the strengthening economic ties and emerging opportunities across the Eurasian continent.
