Serbia Unveils Chinese-Built High-Speed Train in Belgrade

On Friday, Serbia introduced its first Chinese-built high-speed train during a ceremony at Belgrade’s Zemun train station. The event was attended by Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, who highlighted the significance of the new addition to the country’s transportation network.

The train, manufactured by the China Railway Rolling Stock Corporation (CRRC), is part of Serbia’s efforts to enhance passenger transport along the soon-to-be-completed Serbian section of the Belgrade-Budapest railway. President Vucic announced that Serbia has ordered a total of five trains from CRRC to serve this route.

“This high-speed train represents a major step forward for Serbia’s infrastructure and connectivity,” President Vucic stated during the ceremony. “The journey from Belgrade to Subotica will now take just one hour and ten minutes, significantly reducing travel time and boosting economic activities along the corridor.”

The Belgrade-Budapest railway is a crucial part of the Belt and Road Initiative, aiming to strengthen ties between Central and Eastern Europe and the Asian region. The new high-speed line is expected to enhance trade, tourism, and cultural exchanges between Serbia, Hungary, and beyond.

President Vucic also expressed appreciation for the China Communications Construction Company (CCCC), which has been instrumental in constructing the railway. “I especially want to thank the CCCC, which is probably the best company that has ever done something in Serbia. It’s amazing how these people work,” he remarked.

The introduction of the Chinese-built high-speed train marks a significant milestone in Serbia’s transportation development, showcasing the successful cooperation between Serbia and China in infrastructure projects.
