China’s digital economy is witnessing unprecedented growth, propelling the nation to become the world’s second-largest in computing power. A recent report unveiled at the 7th Digital China Summit in Fuzhou, Fujian Province, reveals that China’s computing power scale has reached 230 EFLOPS in 2023.
The report, released by the National Data Administration on May 24, highlights significant advancements in the country’s digital infrastructure. The rapid development has not only improved technological capabilities but also accelerated China’s pursuit of high-quality economic development.
Notably, China has achieved the target set in its 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-2025) for the digital economy two years ahead of schedule. The plan, implemented by the State Council in 2022, aimed to increase the proportion of value-added output from core digital economy industries to 10 percent of the nation’s GDP by 2025, up from 7.8 percent in 2020. By 2023, this proportion has already reached the 10 percent mark.
