China’s Deep Sea No.1 Gas Field Achieves Record Output

China’s first independently developed ultra-deepwater gas field, Deep Sea No.1, has achieved a cumulative natural gas output exceeding 8 billion cubic meters since it commenced operations on June 25, 2021. The field has also produced over 800,000 cubic meters of oil, marking a significant milestone in the nation’s offshore energy production.

Operated by the China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC), Deep Sea No.1 is located approximately 150 kilometers off the coast of Sanya in south China’s Hainan Province. The gas field operates at ocean depths surpassing 1,500 meters, making it the deepest of its kind in China.

The construction of Phase II of the project is currently underway, aiming to upgrade and expand the gas field’s capabilities. Upon completion, the project will control 23 deep-water gas wells and incorporate two sets of underwater production systems, enhancing China’s ability to exploit deep-sea energy resources.

The advancements in Deep Sea No.1 underscore China’s growing expertise in deepwater drilling technology and its commitment to bolstering energy security. The gas field plays a crucial role in supplying clean energy to domestic markets, supporting the nation’s economic growth and contributing to global energy dynamics.
