China Launches Shenzhou-18 Manned Mission to Space Station
In a significant stride for space exploration, China successfully launched the Shenzhou-18 manned spacecraft on Thursday evening from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center in northwest China. The China Manned Space Agency (CMSA) announced that the spacecraft, carrying three Chinese astronauts, lifted off aboard a Long March-2F carrier rocket at 8:59 p.m. Beijing Time.
Approximately ten minutes after launch, Shenzhou-18 separated from the rocket, entering its planned orbit. The spacecraft is set to conduct an autonomous, rapid rendezvous and docking with the space station, where the Shenzhou-18 crew will perform an in-orbit rotation with the Shenzhou-17 crew.
This mission marks China’s first manned mission to the space station this year and the third since the station entered its application and development phase. It is China’s 32nd manned flight into space and the 518th flight mission of the Long March series rockets.
