China-Laos Railway Celebrates One Year of Cross-Border Passenger Service

On Saturday, the China-Laos Railway marked the first anniversary of its cross-border passenger service, celebrating a milestone in regional connectivity and tourism. The railway has successfully linked China’s Xishuangbanna with Laos’ Luang Prabang, two destinations renowned for their rich cultural heritage and natural beauty.

Inaugurated on December 3, 2021, the China-Laos Railway stretches from Kunming, the capital of southwest China’s Yunnan Province, to Vientiane, the capital city of Laos. The introduction of the cross-border passenger service on April 13, 2023, has significantly enhanced travel between the two nations, fostering economic ties and cultural exchange.

Over the past year, approximately 180,000 international passenger trips have been recorded on the railway, attracting travelers from 87 countries and regions. This surge in international travel reflects the growing appeal of Southeast Asia as a destination for global tourists, business professionals, and cultural enthusiasts.

The China-Laos Railway stands as a testament to the robust partnership between the two countries, exemplifying the potential of regional cooperation in infrastructure development.
