Google has taken a significant leap in data center technology by unveiling its new Arm-based central processing unit (CPU) named Axion and the latest version of its artificial intelligence (AI) chip, the TPU v5p. “We’re making it easy for customers to bring their existing workloads to Arm,” Lohmeyer stated. “Axion is built on open foundations, allowing customers using Arm anywhere to adopt Axion without re-architecting or re-writing their applications.”

Alongside Axion, Google introduced the TPU v5p, the latest iteration of its tensor processing units specifically designed for AI workloads. The TPU v5p boasts twice the raw performance of its predecessor and is engineered to operate in pods of up to 8,960 chips.
