Sun Yingsha Dominates at ITTF World Cup in Macao

Chinese table tennis stars made a formidable showing at the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) Men's and Women's World Cup in Macao SAR this week, with world No. 1 Sun Yingsha leading a flawless group stage performance by all seven mainland Chinese athletes on Monday.

Defending champion Sun demonstrated her dominance with an 11-3, 11-4, 11-9 victory over Li Yu-Jhun of the Taiwan region in their first singles encounter. The match saw Sun adapt strategically against her opponent's late-game resurgence, showcasing the technical versatility that has kept her atop world rankings since 2023.

"Her returns were solid, and the competition remained intense," Sun told reporters after the match, acknowledging Li's performance. "I adjusted my serves and maintained strong determination – every point matters in this format."

The event in Macao SAR – marking its first hosting of the revamped World Cup format – has drawn particular attention from sports analysts and investors eyeing China's continued table tennis infrastructure development. Fellow mainland athletes Chen Xingtong and Wang Manyu also secured decisive wins, reinforcing China's position in the global table tennis landscape.
