The Senegalese government has strongly condemned the Confederation of African Football’s (CAF) decision to revoke the national team’s 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) title and award it to Morocco, calling the move “unjust” and a threat to African football’s credibility.
In a statement released on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, authorities criticized CAF for applying what they described as a “flawed interpretation of the rules,” vowing to pursue legal action and demand an independent investigation into alleged corruption within the governing body. The government emphasized that the decision “directly contradicts the core principles of sporting ethics,” including fairness and respect for the game.
Senegal also pledged support for citizens detained in Morocco following the 2025 AFCON final, promising to monitor their cases closely. “Senegal will remain resolute in defending the rights of our team and protecting the honor of African sport,” the statement concluded.
