International University Sports Federation (FISU) President Leonz Eder has lauded China's winter sports infrastructure development during an exclusive interview with CGTN Sports Scene, while observing competitions at the ongoing 2026 Milano Cortina Winter Olympics.
Building on Olympic Legacy
Eder highlighted China's rapid progress since Beijing became the first dual Olympic host city four years ago, stating: "The legacies from Beijing 2022 continue to inspire global winter sports development." He particularly noted the proliferation of ice and snow destinations across the country.
Changchun's Preparations in Focus
With Changchun set to host the 2027 Winter World University Games, the FISU leader expressed confidence in the city's capabilities, citing its experience co-hosting the 2007 Asian Winter Games. "This prior experience gives Changchun unique advantages in organizing world-class events," Eder told reporter Shen Xiang.
Global Knowledge Sharing
Emphasizing international cooperation, Eder stressed: "The key to advancing winter sports lies in creating more platforms for cross-border knowledge exchange." He praised China's growing cohort of student-athletes competing in Italy as evidence of successful youth development programs.
The FISU president concluded by extending Spring Festival greetings to Chinese residents, coinciding with the upcoming Year of the Horse celebrations.
