IOC President Coventry Tours Milan Olympic Village Ahead of 2026 Winter Games

International Olympic Committee President Kirsty Coventry inspected final preparations at Milan's Olympic Village this week, offering a glimpse into the high-tech innovations shaping the upcoming Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Games. The two-time Olympic swimming champion tested an intelligent service robot developed by a Chinese technology partner, calling it "a testament to sport's evolving relationship with cutting-edge innovation."

Accompanied by Milano Cortina Foundation President Giovanni Malagò and IOC Executive Board members, Coventry toured athlete residences and exhibition spaces showcasing partner technologies. "This Village has transformed into the heart of humanity and care for the Games," said the IOC's first female president, who assumed office in 2023.

The delegation included prominent Asian sports figures such as IOC member Zhang Hong, China's first Winter Olympics speed skating gold medalist, and Ding Ning, table tennis champion and chair of the Olympic Council of Asia Athletes' Commission. Their presence underscores Asia's growing influence in global sports governance as the region prepares to host multiple major international events through 2030.

With 700 days remaining until the February 2026 opening ceremony, the visit highlights Italy's progress in creating sustainable infrastructure that will later become mixed-use urban developments. Business analysts note the Games are already driving investment in northern Italy's tourism and winter sports sectors.
