China Secures Historic Bobsleigh Gold Ahead of 2026 Winter Olympics

Chinese athletes Yin Zheng and Zhao Dan delivered a standout performance at the IBSF World Cup in St. Moritz on January 9, claiming gold in the mixed team skeleton event – a discipline set to debut at next month's Winter Olympics in Italy. The victory marks China's first top podium finish in this season's World Cup circuit.

The duo demonstrated remarkable consistency, with Zhao clocking 1:14.13 in the women's heat and Yin following with 1:12.03 in the men's division. Their combined time of 2:26.16 edged out international rivals, building momentum ahead of the February 2026 Games.

Yin extended his strong form by securing bronze in the individual men's skeleton event with an identical total time of 2:26.16. The 25-year-old now ranks second in overall World Cup standings after six qualifying events, having collected three bronze medals and multiple top-six finishes this season.

This Swiss leg serves as the penultimate Olympic qualification opportunity, with athletes vying for final rankings before the Winter Games opening ceremony. China's bobsleigh program continues to show rapid development since its first Olympic skeleton medal in 2022, positioning the team as serious contenders in 2026.
