Guangdong Secures Historic Basketball Gold at 15th National Games

Guangdong's men's basketball team reclaimed glory at the 15th National Games on November 12, 2025, defeating Zhejiang 101-65 in a dominant final held in Dongguan. The victory marks their first gold in 12 years and third overall, reigniting regional pride in one of China's most anticipated sporting events.

Zhejiang faced significant challenges, missing star center Yu Jiahao due to overseas commitments and forward Liu Zeyi. Despite trailing by just one point after the first quarter, Guangdong's relentless full-court press in the third quarter limited Zhejiang to 11 points, sealing the game's fate.

Guard Xu Jie emerged as a standout performer, scoring 18 points with 9 assists, while 30-year-old debutant Wang Ruize added 16 points. Coach Du Feng, who previously led Guangdong to back-to-back titles in 2009 and 2013, solidified his coaching legacy with this win.

The triumph underscores Guangdong's enduring dominance in Chinese basketball and sets the stage for renewed rivalries as teams prepare for future national competitions.
