China’s National Games Torch Blends Innovation and Sustainability

The torch for China's 15th National Games and Para Games has emerged as a symbol of technological ingenuity and environmental responsibility, according to lead designer He Ye. Combining advanced 3D printing techniques with weather-resistant engineering, the design team has reimagined traditional production methods to align with modern sustainability goals.

He Ye emphasized the eco-conscious approach: "Traditional mold-based manufacturing would have been wasteful for a limited-edition torch. With 3D printing, we produce only what’s needed, eliminating excess material use." This method not only reduces resource consumption but also allows precise customization for the torch’s functional demands.

Engineers tackled unique challenges posed by Guangdong’s climate, where intense sunlight and sudden downpours tested the relay’s logistics. Adjustments to the air-fuel ratio ensured the flame maintained its vivid crimson hue even in strong crosswinds, while waterproofing measures proved successful during a waterfall-adjacent segment. "The main torch performed flawlessly during ceremonies," He noted, underscoring its reliability.

This fusion of aesthetics and practicality reflects China’s growing emphasis on green technology in large-scale events. The design sets a precedent for future sports infrastructure, balancing ceremonial grandeur with ecological accountability.
