Chinese table tennis star Wang Chuqin delivered a masterclass in endurance and versatility at the World Table Tennis (WTT) China Smash in Beijing, securing victories across singles, doubles, and mixed doubles matches on Wednesday. The World No. 1’s triple triumph underscores China’s continued dominance in the sport while offering thrilling moments for global fans.
Wang’s grueling day began with a hard-fought 3-2 men’s singles win against Poland’s Milosz Redzimski. After narrowly escaping a comeback by the unseeded Polish player, Wang acknowledged the close call: "I got a lucky win. I need to analyze my performance to prepare better." Redzimski later admitted regret over missing a historic opportunity to defeat the top-ranked player.
Teaming up with Lin Shidong in men’s doubles, Wang showcased seamless coordination to overpower Sweden’s 2021 world champions Mattias Falck and Kristian Karlsson 3-0. "Our communication has improved since Singapore," remarked Lin, highlighting their evolving partnership. Three other Chinese pairs also advanced, reinforcing China’s depth in doubles play.
In mixed doubles, Wang partnered with Sun Yingsha to sweep compatriots Chen Yuanyu and Kuai Man 3-0. The duo’s aggressive serves and tactical adjustments proved decisive, with Sun praising Wang’s stamina: "He performed exceptionally despite this being his third match." They now face Brazil’s Hugo Calderano and Bruna Takahashi in the semifinals.
Other notable results included French teen Felix Lebrun’s thrilling five-game victory over Chen Yuanyu, while Chinese women’s stars Wang Manyu and Kuai Man cruised through their singles and doubles matches. The event continues to draw global attention as athletes prepare for Paris 2024 Olympic qualifiers.
