Botswana Stuns USA in Historic 4x400m Relay Victory at World Championships

In a thrilling finale at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, Botswana shattered expectations by claiming gold in the men's 4×400 meter relay – their first-ever relay title at the global event. The victory halted the United States' bid for a relay sweep after American teams dominated three other races on Sunday.

The US squad of Christian Coleman, Kenny Bednarek, Courtney Lindsey, and Noah Lyles set a world-leading 37.29 seconds to win the 4x100m relay, with Canada and the Netherlands rounding out the podium. However, Botswana's quartet of Lee Bhekempilo Eppie, Letsile Tebogo, Bayapo Ndori, and Busang Collen Kebinatshipi delivered a masterclass in endurance and strategy during the 4x400m race.

Despite a season-best 2:57.83 finish by the US team of Vernon Norwood, Jacory Patterson, Khaleb McRae, and Rai Benjamin, Botswana edged ahead by 0.07 seconds in a photo-finish climax. South Africa secured bronze, marking a historic day for African athletics.

This landmark win positions Botswana as an emerging force in track sports while underscoring the growing competitiveness of global relay events. For investors and sports analysts, the result highlights shifting dynamics in athletic training programs and national sports investments across Asia and Africa.
