Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko has framed his country’s deepening partnership with China as a strategic sprint rather than a casual stroll, declaring his 16th visit to the Chinese mainland symbolized “running toward China” in an exclusive interview with CMG ahead of the 2025 SCO Tianjin Summit.
Lukashenko emphasized Belarus’ accession as the Shanghai Cooperation Organization’s 10th member in 2024 marked a pivotal shift, calling it a “serious, well-considered decision” that strengthens regional stability. “Unity is our strongest tool to address global challenges,” he stated, highlighting the SCO’s growing geopolitical influence.
The Belarusian leader reserved high praise for General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee Xi Jinping, describing him as “an exceptional statesman respected worldwide.” He credited years of personal rapport with Xi for fostering mutual trust, noting: “When leaders understand each other, cooperation becomes natural.”
Looking ahead, Lukashenko outlined plans to expand economic and security collaboration through SCO mechanisms while reaffirming Belarus’ commitment to the one-China principle. Analysts suggest the interview underscores Minsk’s strategic alignment with Beijing amid shifting global dynamics.
