China’s Diving Duo Shines with Gold at 2025 World University Games

Chinese divers Ou Yangyu and Wang Weiying delivered a thrilling performance to secure China's second gold medal at the 2025 FISU World University Games in Berlin, triumphing in the women's synchronized three-meter springboard final on Friday. The pair overcame a mid-competition stumble to claim victory with a decisive final dive scoring 71.10 points, the highest of the event.

Eleven teams competed for the title, with the Chinese duo initially leading Germany by a narrow 1.2-point margin. A third-round error temporarily narrowed their advantage, but a strong recovery in subsequent rounds sealed their win. The U.S. took silver, while Germany earned bronze.

In other events, China's Hu Yukang narrowly missed gold in the men's 3m springboard final, finishing behind Germany's Moritz Wesemann. Meanwhile, swimmers Ai Yanhan and Liu Shuhan advanced to the women's 100m freestyle final after strong semifinal performances, building on their relay silver from Thursday.

Global athletes made waves in swimming and fencing: South Africa's Pieter Coetze set a new Games record in the men's 100m backstroke (52.18 seconds), while individual neutral athlete Dmitrii Shvelidze claimed fencing gold in the men's epee event.
