Wimbledon Shocker: Gauff Exits Early as Swiatek Advances

In a stunning upset at Wimbledon, US tennis star Coco Gauff suffered her earliest Grand Slam exit since 2023, falling to Ukraine's Dayana Yastremska 7-6(3), 6-1 in Tuesday's first round. The second-seeded American's departure follows her recent French Open triumph and marks her sixth consecutive Wimbledon campaign without progressing past the round of 16.

Gauff acknowledged post-match challenges in balancing celebration and preparation: "Mentally, I was overwhelmed with everything after Paris. I've learned what I would and wouldn't do again." The 21-year-old committed 29 unforced errors and nine double faults during the 78-minute match.

The upset-heavy day saw fifth-seeded Zheng Qinwen from China and third-seeded Jessica Pegula also eliminated. Meanwhile, World No. 4 Iga Swiatek of Poland extended her dominance, defeating Russia's Polina Kudermetova 7-5, 6-1 to secure her 61st consecutive opening-match victory – a women's record this century.

Swiatek's next challenge comes against American Caty McNally, who defeated British wildcard Jodie Burrage in straight sets. The contrasting fortunes highlight Wimbledon's unpredictable nature as players adapt from clay to grass courts.
