Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Games Venues Near Completion, CEO Reveals

Preparations for the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Games are progressing smoothly, with competition venues nearly ready and test events achieving consistent success, according to organizing committee CEO Andrea Varnier. In an exclusive interview with China Media Group (CMG), Varnier emphasized technological advancements and sustainability as key pillars of the event.

"We're working until the final moments in some areas, but overall progress is highly satisfactory," said Varnier, drawing from his experience as a director of the 2006 Turin Winter Olympics. He highlighted cybersecurity as a critical investment area, reflecting the evolving demands of modern mega-events.

The 2026 Games will reuse multiple existing venues, a strategy Varnier hopes will set a new standard for future host cities. In a teaser for the opening ceremony, he revealed plans to involve athletes across multiple locations rather than concentrating events at a single stadium.

Scheduled for February 6-22, 2026, the Games will showcase innovations in event management while maintaining Italy's rich Olympic legacy. The approach combines operational pragmatism with creative spectacle, promising a unique experience for athletes and spectators alike.
