Carlos Alcaraz Eyes Wimbledon Defense After Queen’s Club Triumph

Carlos Alcaraz has sent a clear message to his Wimbledon rivals after clinching his second Queen's Club Championship title, declaring he now feels "great" on grass despite initial doubts about his transition from clay courts. The 22-year-old Spaniard outlasted the Czech Republic's Jiri Lehecka 7-5, 6-7 (5), 6-2 in a grueling final on Sunday, extending his career-best winning streak to 18 matches.

Alcaraz's victory makes him the first player since Rafael Nadal in 2008 to win both the French Open and Queen's Club titles consecutively—a feat he called "really complicated" given the short adjustment period between surfaces. "I came here with no expectations," admitted the world No. 2, who previously expressed concerns about adapting to grass. "My goal was just to feel comfortable again on this surface."

The five-time Grand Slam champion's dominant run—which includes recent wins at the Italian Open and Roland Garros—positions him as a formidable contender to retain his Wimbledon crown. His ability to quickly master grass courts has surprised even himself, with the triumph marking a confidence boost ahead of the All England Club tournament starting July 1.
