Barcelona Aims to Shake Off Champions League Heartbreak in Make-or-Break El Clasico

Barcelona coach Hansi Flick has rallied his squad ahead of Sunday’s critical El Clasico against Real Madrid, framing the match as a chance to erase the agony of their dramatic UEFA Champions League exit to Inter Milan earlier this week. The high-stakes showdown at Camp Nou could determine the fate of both teams in a tightly contested La Liga title race.

Speaking to reporters on Saturday, Flick acknowledged the emotional toll of Tuesday’s 4-3 extra-time defeat in Milan, where Barcelona narrowly missed a late comeback victory. "After the defeat, everyone knows it was not easy," he said. "But I think we are doing great."

With a four-point lead over Madrid and three consecutive Clasico wins this season – including a Copa del Rey final triumph – Barcelona now look to complete an unprecedented four-game sweep against their rivals. A win would solidify their path toward a domestic double, while Madrid risk ending the campaign without silverware.

Flick confirmed striker Robert Lewandowski and left-back Alejandro Balde are fit to contribute second-half minutes, easing concerns over their recent injuries. Lewandowski, who leads the team with 40 goals this season, returned from a thigh issue in the final moments of the Inter loss. Youth defender Gerard Martin, who filled in for Balde during his injury, is expected to rotate out after struggling defensively in Milan.

"The Clasico is very important for us to show again how good we can play," Flick emphasized, framing the match as a catalyst for confidence ahead of Barcelona’s remaining league fixtures. The match kicks off at 8:45 PM local time on Sunday, with global viewership expected to surpass 650 million.
