China’s Teen Shooter Wang Zifei Wins First ISSF World Cup Gold

Eighteen-year-old Wang Zifei made sports history on Monday by securing her debut ISSF World Cup gold medal in the women's 10m air rifle event in Buenos Aires. The rising star from the Chinese mainland achieved a final score of 254.1 points – a mere 0.4 points below the world record held by compatriot Huang Yuting.

Wang's victory followed a dramatic final where she overcame Switzerland's Audrey Gogniat, an Olympic bronze medalist, and South Korea's Kwon Eun-ji. Starting third after qualifications, Wang displayed nerves of steel during elimination rounds, hitting consecutive inner-ten shots to claim the lead.

This triumph builds on Wang's 2023 Junior World Championships success in Peru, where she claimed two golds. Her silver medal at last year's Baku World Cup hinted at the potential now realized through Monday's breakthrough.

The competition continues Tuesday with air pistol and rapid fire events, as athletes from over 20 countries and regions vie for podium positions.
