Bayern Munich has confirmed that club icon Thomas Müller will depart this summer after a historic 25-year association with the German football giants. The 35-year-old announced his decision in an emotional open letter to fans on Saturday, calling it a day "not like any other."
Müller, who joined Bayern's youth academy at age 10, will play his final matches at July's FIFA Club World Cup in the United States after the conclusion of his current contract. His announcement follows Bayern's 3-1 Bundesliga victory over Augsburg, where he made a substitute appearance.
"It has been an incredible journey, full of unforgettable experiences and triumphs," Müller wrote, addressing fans directly. "I am grateful to have had this career at my boyhood club."
While the club has not yet announced plans for a farewell match, tributes from teammates and supporters have begun flooding social media. Müller's departure marks the end of an era for one of Bayern's most decorated players, with 12 Bundesliga titles and two UEFA Champions League trophies to his name.
