China's Zhan Yilian delivered a standout performance at the IBA Women's World Boxing Championships in Niš, Serbia, securing gold in the heavyweight category on Sunday. Zhan defeated Kazakhstan's Yeldana Talipova in a decisive 4-1 victory to claim the title. Fellow athlete Hu Meiyi earned silver in the light flyweight division after a tough 5-0 loss to Kazakhstan's Alua Balkibekova.
China's delegation collected a total of five medals: one gold, one silver, and three bronzes. Cai Yan (featherweight), Wang Xiaomeng (light heavyweight), and Wang Lina (middleweight) each contributed bronze medals to the tally. The team secured fourth place overall in the standings, behind Russia, Kazakhstan, and Türkiye.
A delegation of 12 Chinese athletes participated in the March 8-16 tournament, competing across all 12 weight categories. This year’s results highlight China’s growing prominence in women’s boxing, with athletes demonstrating consistent progress in international competitions.
