Bayern Munich’s Bundesliga Lead Stalls in 1-1 Draw with Union Berlin

Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich saw their winning momentum falter after a late equalizer by Union Berlin forced a 1-1 draw on Saturday, extending the team's winless league streak to two matches. Despite the setback, Bayern now hold a nine-point lead at the top of the table.

Vincent Kompany’s side dominated possession early, bombarding Union’s defense with relentless attacks. However, the hosts held firm, limiting Bayern to speculative shots until substitute Leroy Sané broke the deadlock in the 75th minute with a clinical finish from Michael Olise’s assist.

Union’s persistence paid off eight minutes later when goalkeeper Jonas Urbig’s weak punch from Josip Juranović’s cross fell to Benedict Hollerbach, a former Bayern academy player, who headed in the equalizer. The result lifts Union to 13th place while raising questions about Bayern’s defensive consistency.

Reigning champions Bayer Leverkusen, nine points behind but with a game in hand, could narrow the gap when they face Stuttgart on Sunday. Bayern, chasing a 34th Bundesliga title, remain favorites but face mounting pressure to address vulnerabilities ahead of pivotal fixtures.
