Wang Chuqin and Wang Manyu, both ranked second in the men's and women's world rankings respectively, were crowned champions at the Asian Cup table tennis tournament in Shenzhen on Sunday.
In the men's final, Wang Chuqin dominated his fellow Chinese player Liang Jingkun, securing a 4-0 victory with set scores of 11-7, 11-2, 16-14, and 11-5. "I didn't disappoint you," Wang Chuqin told his vocal supporters. "I regarded myself as a challenger, not a favorite. So I kept fighting for each point."
Similarly, Wang Manyu triumphed over Sun Yingsha in the women's final, denying Sun a victorious debut in the tournament with a straight-set win of 4-0. The set scores were 11-5, 11-9, 11-6, and 11-6, with the match concluding in 40 minutes. Wang Manyu stated, "I have executed my strategy, and I wasn't hesitant at all."
Earlier in the day, China's Lin Shidong and Kuai Man secured bronze medals in the men's and women's events, respectively.
