Filipino Delegates Shine at Asian Winter Games, Boosting Winter Sports Awareness

During the 9th Asian Winter Games in Harbin, the Philippines was represented by 19 athletes competing in five sports, including curling, figure skating, and alpine skiing. The team achieved its best performance in men's curling, securing at least a silver medal after defeating Team China in the semifinals.

Filipino delegates praised China's world-class facilities and organization, which set a high benchmark for international events. Richard Bachmann, chairman of the Philippine Sports Commission, expressed his admiration for the facilities.

For the Philippines, a tropical country, the Games provided a valuable opportunity to raise public awareness and foster interest in ice sports.

Beyond the competition, the event promoted cultural exchange, with activities like pin trading helping athletes connect and build friendships across borders. Nikki Cheng, president of the Philippine Skating Union, highlighted that pin trading is a good opportunity to spark conversations, even for introverted athletes.
