Guangsha Lions Triumph Over Zhejiang Golden Bulls in Thrilling Battle of Hangzhou

The Guangsha Lions edged past their local rivals, the Zhejiang Golden Bulls, with a narrow 102-98 victory in a thrilling Battle of Hangzhou on Monday night. The Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) leaders showcased resilience and determination to overcome a strong start by Zhejiang.

The Golden Bulls came out firing, quickly establishing a double-digit lead in the first quarter, propelled by the sharp shooting of Gabe York. Their momentum continued into the second quarter as they extended their advantage, capitalizing on Guangsha’s turnovers. Despite the deficit, the Lions stayed in contention with Sun Minghui delivering crucial perimeter shots. At halftime, Zhejiang led 64-54.

In the second half, Guangsha’s top scorer Barry Brown found his offensive rhythm. His dynamic drives and accurate perimeter shots helped the Lions claw back to level the score. The final quarter turned into a captivating showdown between Brown and York, each trading baskets in an intense scoring duel. In the closing moments, fatigue seemed to affect York, who missed a crucial free throw and a three-pointer, allowing the Lions to secure their slim lead and ultimately, the victory.

In another significant matchup, the Beijing Ducks, despite missing key players Zhou Qi and Zeng Fanbo, rallied in the final quarter to defeat the Fujian Sturgeons 105-89. The first three quarters were closely contested, with neither team able to establish a significant lead. However, Beijing’s exceptional defense in the fourth quarter limited Fujian to just 12 points on 2-for-17 shooting.

This strong defensive performance enabled the Ducks to pull away decisively, improving their impressive home record to 12-1 and snapping a two-game losing streak after road defeats against Guangsha and Zhejiang.
