Chinese Shuttlers Advance to Quarterfinals at BWF Malaysia Open

Chinese badminton players continued to shine at the BWF Malaysia Open on Thursday, securing spots in the quarterfinals across multiple events.

World No. 7 Li Shifeng showcased resilience in the men’s singles, overcoming India’s H.S. Prannoy in a thrilling three-game match. Li dominated the first game 21-8, but Prannoy fought back to take the second game 21-15. In a nail-biting decider, Li edged out Prannoy 23-21 after the Indian player hit the net on match point. Li will face Chinese Taipei’s Chi Yu-jen in the quarterfinals.

In the women’s doubles, the Chinese pair of Jia Yifan and Zhang Shuxian displayed formidable teamwork to defeat the sixth-seeded Indian duo Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand Pullela. In just their third international event together, Jia and Zhang battled through three games, ultimately clinching the decider 21-19 to secure their place in the last eight.

However, in the men’s doubles, China’s second seeds Liang Weikeng and Wang Chang faced an upset. The duo was defeated by South Korea’s Kim Won Ho and Seo Seung Jae in straight games, 21-17, 21-16, missing out on a spot in the quarterfinals.
