China’s Quan Hongchan and Cao Yuan Named World Aquatics Diving Athletes of the Year

China’s diving sensations Quan Hongchan and Cao Yuan have been honored as the 2024 Female and Male Diving Athletes of the Year by World Aquatics, recognizing their outstanding performances over the past year.

The 17-year-old Quan Hongchan demonstrated remarkable prowess and composure, capturing both the individual and synchronized women’s 10-meter platform titles at the World Championships in Doha. Her dominance continued at the Paris Olympics, where she successfully defended her title in the 10-meter platform event. In a captivating final, Quan surpassed her long-time partner Chen Yuxi, who finished second after the pair had earlier teamed up to claim the synchronized 10-meter platform gold.

Chen Yuxi also earned a place among the best female athletes of the year, highlighting the exceptional depth of talent within China’s diving team. Fellow Chinese divers Chen Yiwen and Chang Yani were recognized for their gold medal achievement in the synchronized 3-meter springboard at Paris 2024.

Cao Yuan, named Male Diving Athlete of the Year, continued to build upon his illustrious career. His consistent excellence and ability to perform under pressure have solidified his status as one of the sport’s premier athletes.

China’s continued success on the global diving stage reflects the athletes’ dedication and the strength of the nation’s training programs. These accolades from World Aquatics underscore China’s influential role in shaping the future of the sport.
