Mbappé Returns from ‘Bottom’ as Real Madrid Overcome Sevilla 4-2; Navas Bids Farewell

Kylian Mbappé showcased his brilliant form as Real Madrid secured a 4-2 victory over Sevilla on Saturday, moving up to second place in La Liga above rivals Barcelona.

After Atlético Madrid’s win over Barcelona earlier in the day secured them the top spot for Christmas, Carlo Ancelotti’s side seized the opportunity with a comfortable home win, now sitting just one point behind the leaders.

Mbappé, who joined Real Madrid from Paris Saint-Germain in the summer, proved his adaptation period is over by delivering a strong performance and scoring his 14th goal of the season across all competitions. Ahead of the match, coach Ancelotti had expressed confidence in Mbappé’s growing form.

“I know I’ve got much more in my legs than I’m showing, but in the last games I’ve played better,” Mbappé said after the match. “The Bilbao game was good for me, I hit the bottom, I missed a penalty, and it was a moment to realize that I have to give everything for this shirt and show my personality.”

Fede Valverde added to the scoreline with a brilliant long-range effort, while Rodrygo Goes and Brahim Díaz also found the net for the hosts. Mbappé provided a clever assist for Díaz’s goal, highlighting his all-around contribution to the team.

Despite goals from Isaac Romero and Dodi Lukebakio for Sevilla, the visitors were thoroughly outplayed during veteran defender Jesús Navas’s final game for the club.

Navas, a longtime servant of Sevilla, received a heartfelt farewell from both teammates and fans, marking the end of an era for the club.

Real Madrid’s victory not only boosts their position in the league but also signals Mbappé’s resurgence as a key player for the team. With the title race heating up, Los Blancos appear poised to challenge for the top spot in La Liga as the season progresses.
