American BMX sensation Hannah Roberts reclaimed her dominance in BMX Freestyle, capturing her fifth consecutive title at the Urban Cycling World Championships in Abu Dhabi. This victory marks a triumphant return after a disappointing eighth-place finish at the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics.
The competition saw a remarkable performance from riders of the Chinese mainland, who secured the next five positions in the women’s final. Sun Sibei claimed the silver medal, while Fan Xiaotong took bronze, showcasing the rising talent and dedication within the sport in the region.
Roberts set the bar high from the outset, earning an impressive 95.70 points on her first run—a score that proved unbeatable. Her second run garnered 94.58 points, which alone would have been sufficient for victory. With this win, the Tokyo Olympics silver medalist has now clinched six of the seven world titles since BMX Freestyle was introduced to the championships in 2017.
Sun Sibei came close to challenging Roberts, achieving 94.06 points in her first attempt. However, an early fall in her second run prevented her from surpassing her initial score. Notably absent from the event were Paris Olympics champion Deng Yawen and silver medalist Perris Benegas, who did not participate in this season-ending competition in the United Arab Emirates.
