Vero Volley Milano Sweeps Zamalek SC, Advances in FIVB Club World Championship

Italian powerhouse Numia Vero Volley Milano showcased their dominance on Thursday, sweeping past Egypt’s Zamalek Sporting Club in straight sets (25-9, 25-13, 25-18) at the Federation of International Volleyball (FIVB) Women’s Club World Championship in Hangzhou, China.

Fresh off celebrating her 26th birthday, Paris Olympics MVP Paola Egonu took to the court in the first set, contributing five points to Milano’s commanding 25-9 opener. Despite Egonu’s limited playtime, Milano established an early lead that set the tone for the match.

In the second set, French outside hitter Helena Cazaute emerged as the offensive spearhead. Her unstoppable kills and a pair of aces propelled her to the top of the scoring charts with 13 points. Milano continued their relentless attack, sealing the set at 25-13 as Zamalek’s block sailed out of bounds.

Maintaining momentum in the third set, Milano kept Zamalek at bay. The match concluded with opposite hitter Radostina Marinova delivering a decisive hammer, clinching the final set 25-18.

With this victory, Milano finishes their Pool A matches with a 2-1 record. Their performance secures them the second spot in the pool standings and guarantees a place in the semifinals, as they are now mathematically unreachable by other teams.

The Italian club’s impressive display in Hangzhou not only underscores their status as a formidable contender but also adds excitement to the upcoming knockout stages of the championship.
