In a thrilling display at the FIVB Women’s Club World Championship, Tianjin Bohai Bank secured their second consecutive victory in the group stage, topping Pool A with a straight-sets win over Italian heavyweights Numia Vero Volley Milano.
The match spotlighted exceptional performances from Tianjin captain Li Yingying and Milano’s star opposite Paola Egonu, each sharing a match-high of 22 points. Li set the tone early, delivering a powerful left-handed spike that ignited her team. Despite Milano’s efforts, including an impressive attack from Anna Danesi narrowing the score to 10-8, Tianjin maintained their composure to take the first set 25-21.
The second set saw Tianjin reinforcing their defense and stepping up their blocking game to extend their lead. Egonu, the Paris Olympics MVP, attempted to shift the momentum with sharp-angled spikes, but unforced errors crept in. A spike that went just out of bounds and a powerful smash beyond the baseline, along with an error from Myriam Sylla, handed Tianjin the second set at 25-22.
The intensity peaked in the third set as both teams engaged in fierce rallies. Milano fought valiantly, tying the score at 23-all in a gripping showdown. However, Li’s signature attack secured the match point, leading Tianjin to clinch the final set 25-23.
With this victory, Tianjin Bohai Bank not only solidifies their standing at the top of Pool A but also builds momentum as they prepare to face Brazil’s Gerdau Minas on Thursday.
