In an impressive display at the International Bobsleigh and Skeleton Federation (IBSF) World Cup in Sigulda, Latvia, China’s Li Chunjian and Shi Yaolong finished sixth in the two-man bobsleigh competition. Fellow Chinese athletes Sun Kaizhi and Ye Jielong came in 13th, showcasing the growing talent in China’s winter sports programs.
Amidst a field of 19 pairs, Li and Shi started strong, completing their first run in 49.81 seconds, securing the sixth position. Sun and Ye followed closely with a time of 50.20 seconds, placing them 12th in the first round.
Maintaining their momentum, Li and Shi recorded a time of 50.03 seconds in the second run, cementing their sixth-place finish with a combined time of 1 minute and 39.87 seconds. Sun and Ye concluded the competition in 13th place, with an overall time of 1 minute and 40.80 seconds.
The event was dominated by Germany’s Francesco Friedrich and his partner Simon Wulff, who clinched the gold with a total time of 1 minute and 38.68 seconds. This victory marks the 49th two-man bobsleigh World Cup title for the 34-year-old Friedrich, further solidifying his legendary status in the sport.
The strong performance by the Chinese teams highlights the nation’s continued development in winter sports, especially in the lead-up to future international competitions. Their achievements in Sigulda reflect dedication and growing prowess on the global stage.
