In a thrilling display of speed and teamwork, China’s Li Chunjian and Shi Yaolong secured sixth place in the two-man bobsleigh at the IBSF World Cup held in Sigulda, Latvia. Competing against 19 elite pairs from around the world, Li and Shi demonstrated precision and power on the icy track.
The duo started strong, clocking in at 49.81 seconds in the first round, placing them sixth in the initial standings. Their compatriots, Sun Kaizhi and Ye Jielong, also put forth a commendable effort, finishing the first round in 50.20 seconds and ranking 12th.
In the second run, Li and Shi maintained their momentum with a time of 50.03 seconds, culminating in a combined time of 1 minute, 39.87 seconds. This consistent performance ensured their sixth-place finish. Sun and Ye concluded their races with an overall time of 1 minute, 40.80 seconds, earning them the 13th spot.
The event was dominated by Germany’s legendary Francesco Friedrich, partnered with Simon Wulff. The pair claimed the top podium position with a remarkable total time of 1 minute, 38.68 seconds. This victory marked the 49th two-man bobsleigh World Cup title for the 34-year-old Friedrich, solidifying his status as one of the sport’s all-time greats.
The competition in Sigulda showcased the rising talent of the Chinese bobsleigh teams on the global stage. Their strong performances signal a promising future as they continue to compete against the world’s best in this high-speed winter sport.
