At the ongoing 2024/25 ISU Short Track Speed Skating World Tour, China’s Sun Long secured the men’s 500m gold medal with a time of 40.155 seconds on Saturday. Sun emerged victorious ahead of Canada’s Steven Dubois, while fellow Chinese skater Liu Shaoang took the third spot on the podium.
Adding to his achievements, Sun also earned a bronze medal in the men’s 1,500m final. South Korea’s Park Ji-won clinched gold in that event with a time of 2:16.776, followed by William Dandjinou of Canada.
Expressing his joy, Sun said, “I tried my best to be concentrated on each run today and keep improving my performance. The gold belongs to our whole team. Despite the ups and downs, our team will be better and better.”
In the women’s events, Canada’s Danae Blais captured the 1,000m gold with a time of 1:29.678. The Canadian team also triumphed in the women’s 3,000m relay, clocking four minutes and 10.948 seconds.
On Friday, Canada set a new world record in the 2,000m mixed team relay during the quarterfinals but narrowly missed advancing to final A after finishing fourth in their semifinal group on Saturday.
The final day of the three-day event on Sunday promises excitement with five gold medals up for grabs in the men’s 1,000m, women’s 500m, women’s 1,500m, mixed team relay, and men’s 5,000m relay.
