Chinese swimmers made a strong splash at the World Aquatics Swimming World Cup in Incheon, South Korea, on Thursday, claiming an impressive one gold and three silver medals on the first day of competition.
Pan Zhanle delivered a standout performance in the men’s 400-meter freestyle, capturing the gold medal with a time of 3 minutes 36.43 seconds. In a thrilling finish, Pan surged from fourth place in the final 50 meters to overtake his competitors. Duncan Scott of Britain claimed silver with a time of 3:37.04, and Kieran Smith of the United States took bronze with 3:37.15. Pan’s remarkable finish not only secured victory but also marked a six-second improvement on his personal best.
In the men’s 100-meter breaststroke, Qin Haiyang earned a silver medal after finishing the final in 56.22 seconds. The gold went to Ilya Shymanovich of Belarus, who touched the wall at 56.10 seconds, while Caspar Corbeau of the Netherlands secured bronze with 56.59 seconds.
On the women’s side, Yang Junxuan claimed silver in the fiercely contested 50-meter freestyle, finishing in 24.11 seconds. Katarzyna Wasick of Poland won gold with a time of 23.51 seconds, and Milla Jansen of Australia took bronze in 24.32 seconds.
Yu Yiting contributed to China’s medal haul with a silver in the women’s 100-meter medley, completing the race in 57.88 seconds. The event was won by Kate Douglass of the United States, who posted a time of 56.97 seconds. Mary-Sophie Harvey of Canada earned bronze with a time of 57.95 seconds. Yu’s teammate, Tang Qianting, finished fifth with a time of 58.84 seconds.
The strong performances by Chinese athletes on the first day signal a promising start to the World Cup, as they continue to showcase their talents on the international stage.
