Guangdong Southern Tigers Secure Third Straight Win Against Fujian Sturgeons

The Guangdong Southern Tigers continued their winning streak by defeating the Fujian Sturgeons 116-108 on Wednesday night in Guangzhou, southern China’s Guangdong Province. This marks the Tigers’ third consecutive victory in the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) league.

The game started with both teams displaying impressive offensive skills, ending the first quarter with Guangdong leading narrowly at 32-29. In the second quarter, the Tigers began to widen the gap as Darius Bazley and Troy Gillenwater powered through the Sturgeons’ defense, collectively scoring 16 points. Will Barton added momentum with six additional points, helping Guangdong secure a 65-52 lead by halftime.

Despite the deficit, the Sturgeons fought back in the third quarter. Bazley and Gillenwater remained relentless, contributing a combined 24 points. Fujian’s Joseph Young and Frank Mason III also stepped up, with Young scoring 10 points and Mason adding nine. However, their efforts only managed to maintain the 13-point gap, ending the quarter at 97-84 in favor of Guangdong.

In the final quarter, the Tigers tightened their defense and extended their lead to 21 points. Although Young and Mason pushed hard in the last five minutes, their rally fell short, and the Sturgeons were unable to overturn the game.

The defeat leaves Fujian still searching for their first win of the season after five consecutive losses. They join the Sichuan Blue Whales, Jiangsu Dragons, and Guangzhou Loong Lions at the bottom of the CBA standings, all yet to secure a victory.
