World No.1 Jannik Sinner Stages Comeback to Advance at China Open

World No.1 seed Jannik Sinner of Italy showcased his resilience and skill as he fought back from a set down to defeat Chile’s Nicolas Jarry 4-6, 6-3, 6-1 in the men’s singles first-round match at the China Open in Beijing on Thursday.

The match began with Jarry, currently ranked 28th on the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) table, taking the first set with his powerful serves and aggressive baseline play. His big hitting troubled the defending champion, putting Sinner on the back foot early in the contest.

“He played good tennis,” Sinner acknowledged after the match. “In the first set, I was struggling to return his serve, and he broke me. I just tried to stay there mentally.”

However, the Italian star adjusted his game in the second set, improving his consistency and finding his rhythm. Sinner’s enhanced focus and tactical adjustments allowed him to level the match and carry the momentum into the decisive third set.

“The first round at any tournament is never easy, and playing against him is very tough,” Sinner added. “But I am happy about the performance and how I ended the match.”

With this comeback victory, Sinner advances to the next round of the China Open, maintaining his pursuit of another title in Beijing. The tournament continues to attract top talent from around the world, offering thrilling matches for tennis enthusiasts and spotlighting Asia’s growing prominence in the global tennis scene.
