Beijing, China—The World Table Tennis (WTT) China Smash has officially commenced today at Shougang Park in Beijing, marking a historic return of elite international table tennis to the Chinese capital after 63 years. The 10-day tournament, part of the premier Smash series akin to Grand Slam events in tennis, boasts a substantial prize purse of two million US dollars.

Leading the Chinese contingent are world number ones Wang Chuqin and Sun Yingsha, who are poised to showcase their prowess despite the absence of Olympic champions Fan Zhendong and Chen Meng. Both Wang and Sun have had an impressive year, and they are eager to continue their success on home soil.
