Norris Leads McLaren to the Top in Singapore as Russell Crashes

McLaren’s Lando Norris topped the second practice session at the Singapore Grand Prix on Friday, edging out Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz by narrow margins. The session was also marked by a crash involving Mercedes’ George Russell, adding to the day’s drama.

Norris recorded a best lap time of one minute 30.727 seconds, just 0.058 seconds faster than Leclerc and 0.629 seconds ahead of last year’s winner Sainz. “The pace is good. I’m feeling good. It was a nice lap. I think we are doing what we expect, to be up at the front with Ferrari,” said Norris.

He added, “I was hoping to have a much bigger gap than I had, which means Ferrari are very, very fast. But things are going well so far.”

Red Bull’s championship leader Max Verstappen struggled, finishing only 15th fastest, 1.294 seconds off the pace, with teammate Sergio Perez eighth. Verstappen, who is 59 points ahead of closest rival Norris with seven rounds remaining, is now without a win in seven races and complained about a lack of grip in low-speed corners.

Perez echoed his sentiments, stating the car lacked balance and it was “not looking great at the moment.”
