With two goals in less than ten minutes, 17-year-old Lamine Yamal led FC Barcelona to a resounding 4-1 victory over Girona, securing their fifth consecutive win in the 2024-25 La Liga season.
The teenager opened the scoring in the 30th minute after intercepting a defender’s pass and delivering a close-range shot into the net. He doubled the lead in the 37th minute by capitalizing on a loose ball inside the area.
Dani Olmo extended Barcelona’s advantage early in the second half with a goal from a tight angle in the 47th minute. Pedri sealed the victory with a strike from inside the area in the 64th minute.
Despite a late goal from Girona’s Cristhian Stuani in the 80th minute, Barcelona maintained control of the match, even after being reduced to ten men following Ferran Torres’s red card in the 87th minute.
Olmo, who had to be substituted due to a right leg injury, became the first player to score in his first three league games for Barcelona since Cesc Fabregas in 2011. Only Zlatan Ibrahimović has achieved the same feat this century.
“To help the team it’s important to score the goals and to do whatever is needed,” Yamal said after the match. “The first match after the international break is always complicated. Now we can start focusing on the match against Monaco in the Champions League on Thursday.”
Robert Lewandowski marked his 100th appearance for Barcelona, contributing to the team’s dominant performance.
Barcelona’s victory keeps them four points clear at the top of the table. Girona, who had won both league games against Barcelona last season, were unable to replicate their previous success.
Barcelona will next face Monaco in the Champions League as they aim to continue their impressive form.
